Week 48: Marketing and continuing...

What a start for the week. I totally forgot that we had marketing lessons scheduled for monday and tuesday. So, arrived a tiny bit late on the mondays lessons. We’re making a blog, so I made this one. Tuesday we made a Media Kit for our blog. It could be imaginary, so I totally made it up.

After those days I continued with my original project. I made few pages ready, and some quite awesome puzzles if I may say. ;)

Week 47: Continuing...

Working independently the whole week. Got a nice flow to that. The layout is now ready and familiar, so making the pages is quite simple. Most work is in the backgrounds and working on the puzzles for kids.

Week 46: Working on The Project

Meeting with Karo at Monday. Had a talk, I’ll make small improvements on the layout and then continue working with it. Made a timetable for this week. It didn’t really keep, since making the page took more time I had estimated.

Week 45: Changing my views and getting to work

We wrote an analysis on the feedback we got on Friday. I’m wasn’t really on the same page with Karoliina about the project, but my client sides with Karoliina, so I have to change my views.


I continued with changed views, and finally got my flow. I’m quite happy with the current design now. We faced problems with free-flowing layout in InDesign, but got that solved. We still have problems with the scrollable frame and audio-button being in the same object.

Week 44: Contracts, poster and the second pitch

We made the contracts with the school. I continued working with the publication and preparing my material for the second pitch. I made the poster almost ready with my own materials, since in the sketch for the poster I used just google images. On Friday there was a second pitch, which wasn’t a success…

Week 43: Holidays!

Holidays! Did nothing school related!

Week 42: Marketing basics, crowdfunding, Aquafadas and photographing

Monday we had Marketing basics with Nina. Tuesday we had Crowdfunding with Patricia. Wednesday we installed Aquafadas tools with Karoliina, but we didn’t really get them to work. On Thursday and Friday I continued the sketches. On Thursday the 15th I visited Arja at the museum. We talked and I took some photos.

Week 41: Learning and teaching DPS-tools and working on The project

We started by using the advances DPS-tools, which has tutorials in DPS Learn -app. We had to learn few of them in pairs, and then teach them to others. Me and Antti learned how to make a animated image sequence, spinning coin animation and a percent calculator animation.


The second half of the week I worked on the sketches about the museum project, and on Friday I finished the first sketches.

Week 40: About location scouting and DPS-tools

Week began with strict classes by Tapani Launonen about production management and location scouting. It was interesting, but I don’t think it was really that helpful for us in the DIP-lab, more for the sight and sound -people…


After those classes we continued our work with Karos lessons in DPS-tools, and we had to make a publication in both horizontal, and vertical, using the DPS-tools for example image sequence, video, audio, buttons, slide shows etc. We built a folio, added the covers, and what we should have done, update that folio to the Adobe library, so we could view it on the tablet, but after multiple, and multiple tries, I didn’t get that to work… :(


Lastly about this week, there was “Contracts” marked to the schedule. Sadly, I didn’t contact my client since she’s on holiday until the 12th of October.

Week 39: Practicing with re-flowable layouts

The first days we had E-Pub basics with Nina Patrikka. We practised different features of the InDesign. New thing was the re-flowable layout, but I found out it isn’t really working with pictures and/or multiple columns, but works best in novels and so on, without or just small amount of pictures. I of course tried making my layout too “pretty”, so it was totally broken in re-flowable view… -__-

Week 38: Final logos?

After Karo’s comments Laura made some adjustments to the logos. DIP logo was the hardest, there was two real versions about it, while the other three were quite clear from the beginning.

Making the Powerpoint presentation about the project for friday, when the first pitching is. Tuesday we practiced, and I was the first to pitch my idea to my “client”, which were my teachers and fellow students. I wasn’t really prepared the pitch really well, I just made the Powerpoint slides. Some of them seemed irrelevant at this point, but I kept them anyway, and pitched it kinda the same to the customer on Friday. Arja from the museum seemed happy and kept nodding her head the whole time. :)

Week 37: More about the logos and starting of the main project

We made the logos ready. All of us sketched the logos, me and Laura drawed them on Illustrator, since Saine didn’t know how to use the program. Laura used more time on the logos than me, making improvements on the versions I made and making her versions of the two logos.

We were introduced to the project ideas. One of the clients had a project that quite caught my attention. It was for the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa museum, and the task was to make a new version about guided museum tour about animals in Finnish culture. At the time it was a booklet, and it was found online as a PDF. It would be fun to make this to an interesting application.

Week 38: Lab logos

We were given the task to make four logos for the labs that were missing logos. Labs are: digital publishing, sight and sound, development and education. In my group there are me, Laura and Saine. We brain stormed, talked and looked ideas from the internet, and made some first sketches for all four logos.
